4 Winter Nail Polishes

Ok we admit it. Make up and beauty doesn’t get its fair share of love on our blog. Our bad. Maybe it’s because fashion is our thing, maybe it’s because we aren’t the sort of girls who change their make up looks regularly {if it ain’t broke…} but it’s certainly not because we don’t wear it or love it. Both of us are partial to a great mascara, luscious lipstick and most certainly a nail polish.

The winter season is the perfect time to switch up those pastel shades and experiment with decadent darks and rich reds so we thought we would reveal our current favourite polishes if you are looking for a new shade that’s perfect for the upcoming party circuit.

Best of all: they’ll match your mulled wine.

If you read this post you’ll know that nail polish rates highly in our beauty regime. We highly recommend it as a way of finishing your look and feeling put together. Or at least looking it, even if you don’t feel it.

These guys below are helping us out with that.

Top of our list is this shade from Essie called Smokin Hot. It’s a hybrid of brown and grey and feels like a perfect option for this time of year. Dark enough to look dramatic but feels like a more fashion forward option.

We believe that you just can’t go wrong with a deep dark rouge noir style tone when the colder months roll in. It’s striking, its elegant and it always looks great. We are loving the finish and long lasting ability of The Penthouse shade by Jessica Nails Phenom range. Everyone needs this colour in their nail polish collection. Fact.

Another staple shade for this time of year is a fabulous dark pillarbox red. We got this one from Hopscotch in a goody bag and love the brand philosophy: they don’t use the 5 main chemicals usually used in nail polish and are vegan too. If that’s your bag, then this is for you.

We have a fair few Chanel polishes in our nail varnish collections and for a darker Autumn Winter wardrobe and festive season we love this shade called Taboo. It’s not quite a purple, nearly a brown but also slightly red all ties together with a really pretty subtle shimmer.

While we are at it there are a couple of nail essentials we’ve been using non stop. If you, like us, are habitual diy manicurists then this Nails Inc nail polish remover pot is a game changer. A great base is essential when applying dark colours like these to stop staining, infact it’s a must when applying any varnish on your nails really and this Nails Inc Nail Kale Superfood Basecoat is your guy. Their Kensington Caviar Topcoat too is a great make up bag staple too for a high gloss finish.

We don’t write too much about make up as we don’t change up what we use that often, but if you’d like a bit more beauty then let us know in the comments below!
