Looking to nature for inspiration is no new idea. Undoubtedly, one of nature’s most vibrant and striking beauties is the majestic butterfly. Each with their own unique pattern, their minuscule delicate bodies have always been a prominent symbol of expression referenced frequently in art and fashion alike.
It is no surprise then that we were totally taken by artist Anne Ten Donkelaar’s latest project. Anne has put a new spin on butterfly inspiration by actually repairing broken butterflies and breathing life into them. Mirroring the individuality of each butterfly, each repair is built from unique material and constructed carefully to give new ‘life’ to the broken beauties. The butterfly bandages range from a replacement wing of wire, a tiny air balloon and propeller, and even a root which seemingly grows from the body of butterfly. We are loving Anne’s creativity and feeling totally inspired by her nature meets design vibe. Below are a few of her interesting and intricate butterfly pieces but you can see more HERE.
