When we saw the image of our Willow Dress in the latest issue of You & Your Wedding magazine it immediately reminded us of the glamourous paintings by artist Tamara de Lempicka. With her starry eyed girls, wide brimmed floppy hats and Deco style drapes and folds of fabric the shoot image looks like a modern day photographic version of her paintings.
Below are a few of De Lempicka’s pieces which show off her beautiful use of light and shade to illuminate the ladies she depicts! Do you see the resemblance too?!
Tamara de Lempicka was the image of the spirited independent woman of her time and epitomized the cool yet sensual side of the Art Deco movement. She was both an artist and a glamour star, and one of the most fashionable portrait painters of her generation. In the roaring 20′s she was part of the Parisian bohemian life and enjoyed a frenetic social life that was full of scandals and eccentricities. She had affairs with both men and women and her desire and seduction can definitley be seen in her paintings.
If this has tickled your taste buds and you’d like to know more, you can learn a bit more about the artist HERE.

I adore Tamara de Lempicka! It was after River Island featured her paintings on their carrier bags when I was about 13 which made me stand up and pay attention. Totally inspiring and so nice to see you featuring her work. I’m sure she would be too…! x
