How to Build a Brand

Maybe you came across this expecting to Build a Bigger Booty so sorry to disappoint as we are talking Building Brands today. After many years working in the fashion industry as designers slogging it out working hard to create our own brand and in recent times bloggers & instagrammers too, we wanted to share a few things we have learnt along the way. A few handy hints and titbits if you are looking to build a brand, start a label or just streamline your insta account.

If you have followed us for a while now, either through our own label Belle & Bunty or through this blog and our social media you will know that we have a set style and look both in our designs and our personal wardrobes. A distinct feel that we think and hope is recognisable to us. It’s: very British {remember that #flirtatiouslybritish hashtag}, feminine, sometimes cheeky flirty with a vintage, 70s twist. We love colour too and try to have fun with what we wear and yes, although we do coordinate our outfits {twinning is winning} we never completely match so as to offer 2 lots of inspiration in one look. Our Belle & Bunty pseudonyms, stemming from our childhood nicknames, almost have a life of their own as 2 different characters and ‘style’ personalities but they sit perfectly together. See, twinning really is winning.

So we recommend that you Find a Formula. Know who you are and what you’re not and stick to it. A distinct colour palette that you love often helps visually tie everything together, you’ll really notice this through our Instagram feed. Make a mental note of keys words that describe what you are all about and try to follow them at all times. Then….

Be individual, don’t imitate. Be unique, true to yourself and although it’s great to look at peers you admire for inspiration, don’t compare {much easier said than done, granted} or copy. You need your own unique selling point to stand out, then…

Repeat Repeat Repeat. A clear brand message can only be created once you know what it is yourself and we definitely took a little while to realise what ours was but now we are secure in it we, repeat repeat repeat it. Followers love consistency and to knowing what they are going to get from you. Mixing it up a little here and there is great but don’t stray too far from what you are all about as people simply won’t get it.

Building anything doesn’t happen over night and sometimes a little trial and error does you good. Repeating: sometimes and a little. Formulate a plan, listen to our little words of advice if you wish but most of all, if you have a budding idea pursue it. ‘Cos you never know what might happen and if you can’t build a brand, you can always build a booty instead.

If all else fails, brazenly wear your name across your chest so no one can miss you. It wasn’t us, it was those cheeky flirty characters: Belle & Bunty
