How To Shop New Season Trends

This week we were thrown slightly out of our online comfort zone and hosted a meet up in London to meet some of our lovely followers IRL. We were interviewed as part of our Oasis project {see more here} and spoke about our personal style and how we shop, amongst other things. Which got us thinking. With the snow behind us and Spring being dangled infront of us like a carrot on a stick, we are fully ready to embrace SS18 with open arms and take a massive bite of said carrot like it was a pretty pink Peggy P cupcake. Fed up of walking around like human onions #layers, we are well up for some lovely new spring sartorial additions.

But ever wondered how to shop the new season sensibly?! When magazines were at their height you would be inundated with “must haves” for the new season, the trends and pieces that would have you looking bang on trend. Now with influencers leading the way we love how you can see trends appearing but for those bloggers you follow who may dip into them differently & style them uniquely, it gives you a great idea of how to try the trends your way. So in case you were wondering… here’s how we shop for the new season….

When chatting at our Meet & Greet we spoke about how we both shop and it’s surprisingly different.

Alice is probably more classic in her approach to the new season; sitting back and observing from afar items that will slot seamlessly into her wardrobe and personal style. With tendencies to shop like a man she’s going to buy something she likes in multiple colours and isn’t swayed by trends just because they are said to be “trendy”

The new season excites Hannah and she’s always waiting with open arms, ready to embrace a new trend if it fits in with her aesthetic. Having already banked a few Spring~y pieces to save until the weather is playing ball there are certain new season trends that she’ll be buying into straight away before they sell out.

 Are you #teamalice or #teamhannah ?!

While we both live by the motto that it is good to experiment with clothes ‘cos really, whats the worst that can happen?! We also know our own styles by now and know when to rule out trends that are not for us. We buy pieces that work with what we own already with the main aim of building a strong, well defined wardrobe and then topping up with new seasons finds.

Colour in all forms from crayola brights to pretty pastels are on trend for the SS18 season which 100% fit in with our aesthetic so like this vintage inspired swing dress and this split midi skirt we know they are great pieces to add into our wardrobes. Cowboy Western influences are also making a come back and with both of us having owned cowboy boots for years this is a no brainer. The AW18 catwalks were brimming with looks straight out of Texas too so this is a trend that’s got some {cowboy boot clad} legs.

We look at shopping for the new season with this equation: 75% of your wardrobe should be able to transition between seasons once you know your style {plus who has the funds or inclination to clear out each season and start a fresh}, 20% brand new styles, leaving 5% to experiment with some pieces that might be outside of your comfort zone or slight curve balls!

Another example of a new Spring buy that’s on trend but slots effortlessly into many outfits; this Gucci crossbody bag. The catwalk was full of bold, oversized branding and repeat pattern logo’s so a seamless purchase {from our favourite designer outlet Bicester Village} which naturally fits with Alice’s style is this tan no brainer GG bag.

So if you are shopping this Spring and feel inundated with trends take a leaf out of our book and work out what you can style with pieces you already own, think if the piece is versatile and you’re going to get multiple wears out if it….and most important of all is it really ‘you’?!

We are still deliberating Colour of the Year Ultra Violet and still haven’t got our heads around puffer jackets.

Know what’s you, and know what to say No to. Simples.
