This blog post should come with a disclaimer that may lead to fashion faux pas’s all over town. We are talking fashion no no’s that in our book are yes, yes’s. Confused?! Us too. We love styling outfits in clashing colours, there’s something so fun and happy about the combo, especially for Summer. It seemed apt for a jaunt around the seaside town of Margate sipping tea and browsing vintage shops. Always floats our boat.
The font of all knowledge, Google says that infact our outfits are not clashing colours and spewed a whole heap of colour wheels and terminology at us {cue: triadic, analogus, complementary pigment… hue… tints & shades} but you know what we don’t think you want/need to know all of that. It’s overcomplicating the matter.
Isn’t it true that sometimes the outfit of contradictions can make the perfect sense, to a certain degree. It might not be the obvious combination that really works but sometimes rules are there to be broken. We think it’s also quite a personal feeling when putting colours and shades together. If you wear lots of blue then extending your personal colour palette to mix in some greens, yellows or purples seems like a do~able, natural progression. For us, as you well know by now, we love warm tones and wear lots of reds and pinks individually so to mix the 2 together works for us.
If you fancy giving this sort of look a go then here are our tips that we bear in mind when colour combining:
~ Stick to 3 colours only. We usually would go for 2 then add a neutral.
~ Be brave. Sometimes its trial and error so give it a try, you can always change!
~ We think the best combination work if you stay within a hue, tones of similar shades pull your colours together.
Also we must give a shout out to this years big surprise sartorial winner ~ the midi skirt. A new versatile wardrobe essential that we have been loving and wearing to death. Also how cute is Margate Old Town! If you are, like us, a lover of vintage shopping and thrifting then you will think you’ve died and gone to heaven with the vast array of shops all within walking distance of each other, a couple of cute tea rooms and the beach front.
We’d advocate wearing your hue on your sleeve and showing your true colours this Summer.
